McCain Has ‘No Confidence’ in Rumsfeld

“PHOENIX – U.S. Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) said Monday that he has “no confidence” in Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, citing Rumsfeld’s handling of the war in Iraq (newsweb sites) and the failure to send more troops.”

And so the jockeying for the 2008 election continues…..

I think that he’ll have no problem wriggling out of the position. Unless he does something foolish he should be able to appeal to both parties.

While McCain may be jockeying for a 2008 Presidential run, he has put himself into a tight spot in that he is responsible, at least in part, for the reelection of President Bush.

That he is a party supporter is one thing, but to so vigorously support someone who is clearly anathema to him is odd, at best.

McCain’s problem is that he is aggresive in trying to appear as a lone maverick, while retaining his GOP support. McCain is far more popular among conservative leaning democrats that far right Republicans.

Besides… why this sudden revelation? He knows all about what Bush and Co. are all about… why the sudden outrage over Rummy? After all, he helped this administration get another four years.
