Cindy Sheehan- New Orleans is Occupied

Cindy Sheehan continues to prove that she is a moron with illusions of grandeur. People have filled her head with this idea that she is a moral authority and educated about politics and the world.

Some of the things that she said here make me shake my head.

“One thing that truly troubled me about my visit to Louisiana was the level of the military presence there. I imagined before that if the military had to be used in a CONUS (Continental US) operations that they would be there to help the citizens: Clothe them, feed them, shelter them, and protect them. But what I saw was a city that is occupied.”

Just in case you think that she slipped up she repeats herself here

“George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power.”

What a sad and ignorant statement. She has so much hatred for Duby all she can do is try and find more ways to excoriate him. She is intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt and sadly unaware of how she is being used.

It is just so disappointing.

    Hi Q,

Absolutely. If she had stayed true to her course there would be little if anything to say about her.

    Jack:

You certainly ellicited a wide range of responses with this post. Emotions run so deep when it comes to the Iraq war.

As you know, I think beginning that war was a mistake. But Sheehan certainly doesn’t speak for me. I think she has yielded to irrationality, which doesn’t do any good for her or for the cause she espouses.

    Hi Barbara,

They may be harsh but they fit. I have blogged about Cindy on several different occasions. I have listed the inconsistencies in her commentary and the illogical banter such as that in which she calls New Orleans occupied.

I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child but I cannot agree that it is license to lie or engage in any sort of Machiavellian strategy to get the person I blame for the death of a child.

The simple facts are that Casey Sheehan enlisted and reenlisted in the service. We all know that the US Armed Forces are strictly voluntary, there is no conscription. He signed up as an adult understanding full well what the risks were.

I have a problem with her and that is why I blogged about it. I think that one of the great challenges of our time is the inability or unwillingness of people to engage in critical thinking and logical thought. If she did that her statements would be different.

That doesn’t mean that she would support the war, but it does mean that she would not make the same sort of illogical and asinine remarks she has been saying.

To conclude that someone is intellectually dishonest, without specific facts, and moraly bankrupt, are rather harsh judgments. Without agreeing or disagreeing with what she has said, as a mother, I can identify with her pain of having loss a son in a war that many Americans now believe we should not have been fighting.

On a side note, each and every day, I pray for the good health and welfare of my own children. If you have children, and I think you do, you may be able to relate to her as a parent rather than a political idealogue. Just my two cents.

    Hi Ezzie,

Thanks for adding that, it is an important point.

As a point… those who think the Nat. Guard was slowed because people were in Iraq are clearly misguided. Just 10.2% (acc. to the Wall Street Journal) are in Iraq now, and the Guard said they had all the people they wanted/needed for whatever needed to be done in NO.

    Zeruel,

Sheehan lost all credibility months ago with the ridiculous statements she made comparing various US politicians to Hitler and Stalin. She has made many other stupid comments but calling New Orleans occupied is a new level of stupidity, really, it is just dumb. I really am sorry that she lost her son, but he enlisted and re-enlisted on his own.

    LD,

There are many like you don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

    Priss,

She started out as her own person and then willfully allowed herself to become a tool. There are so many photo ops that she has been a part of. Too many press conferences and too much spin from her. Believe me when I say that her handlers cringe at a lot of what she says.

    Mirty,

    So true.

    JG,

    Agreed without hesitation.

zeruel – she is the mother of soldier that died, and she deserves our SYMPATHY without question, but that is all. losing someone does not automatically make someone an authority on anything other than heartache.

She’s a nutcase. But intead of getting therapy, she’s doing press conferences.

I enjoy your journal, and I’ve linked to it from my kinja page.

But in this case I find myself in complete disagreement. Cindy is an ordinary American citizen, not a talking points toady. Her words reflect her own opinions, she is not “being used” by some mysterious enemy of democracy.

My on IS NOT safe at home he is in Iraq. It is HIS decision to be there: NOT MINE.

Here’s my post to Ms Sheehan:

“Dear G-d in heaven, I pray that you stop this dillusion that you are the moral authority for this Nation.

The “left” is using you as a mouthpiece and it is sickening. The “right” mocks you and reduces what you say to parody.

If you are speaking with your “own” voice two things: 1) i won’t listen 2) find a place for your anger and hatred, outside of the public sphere.

PROUD BLUE STAR MOM who’s child WAS NOT LIED TO”

  12. Zeruel September 17, 2005 at 5:20 pm

I agree with Sheehan. Instead of wasting lives in a desert far away to suit the interests of an elitist few, effort could have been better spend to help strengthen the poor and improve the levvies to hold a long predicted hurricane back.

Its easy to say Sheehan is a ‘hysteric’ when your own son is safe and sound at home. She is the mother of soldier that died fro nothing. She should be respected without question.
