The Difference Between Sick and Tragic

The difference between sick and tragic is sadly much easier to discern than people realize. Tragic is what happened in Japan. I am a native Angeleno and have lived through many earthquakes. The Northridge earthquake was no slouch, it was quite large but what happened in Japan….massive. Read about the Richter scale and you’ll see that the difference between the 7.1 for Northridge and the 8.9 for Japan is enormous. And then the tsunami that followed….well it is the perfect storm. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to those in Japan. That was tragic.

Sick is different. Sick is what happens when terrorists break into a home and slaughter a family. The pictures of this poor family illustrate it better than I can say. WARNING, these pictures are graphic and disturbing.

The Fogel family was killed Friday night when a terrorist broke into their home in the West Bank settlement of Itamar and stabbed them all to death.

According to police, the suspect broke into the house armed with a knife and stabbed parents Udi and Ruth, along with three of their children, Yoav, Elad, and Hadas Fogel. Magen David Adom rescue services arrived at the scene and found them all dead.

The family’s 12-year-old daughter, who was at a youth group activity, returned to her home at approximately midnight and her calls for the door to be opened for her went unanswered. With the help of a neighbor, they managed to open the door and came upon the horrible murder scene.

It is inexcusable. There are no words, no justification for such action. What happened in Japan is tragic, but what happened in Itamar is sick.

The pictures were horrifying. I skirted around them for a few days this week before finally forcing myself to look at the blood-soaked bedclothes. It was important to really see the violence in Itamar; otherwise it is far too easy to regard it as a more sterile type of death.

Yes, sick doesn’t seem strong enough. We’ve been praying for Japan and will do the same for the Fogels and their friends and family. So sad.

When will the MSM get this? When will the New York Times, CNN, and other biased and liberal papers and news sources understand that a terrorist is an EVIL human being while a tornado, tsunami, or earthquake is an “Act of God”. The choice to murder innocent Jewish children, in cold blood, should be condemned from every one, every where! Shame on the MSM (mainstream media) for their bias and a pox on the Obama Administration for their unwillingness to call a terrorist a terrorist! Ugh, makes me sick.

BTW, I would call this, “The Difference Between Evil and Tragedy” – sick isn’t strong enough!

Smart words, simple idea, well written JackB – but sad that so many don’t get it (the difference)!

    I don’t feel much about this though…lol.

      Bruce,

In almost seven years of blogging I can think of a few incidents that are close to being as horrific as this one. I cannot think of a time where there was more silence from the administration. What happened in Japan deserves the focus, but as you said it was an Act of God.

This is the act of evil. The men who committed this atrocity (and I use men loosely) didn’t attack a military target. These men are not interested in dialogue or peace. These are the same people who hide bombs in hospitals and use children as human shields. It is shameful.
