The Mighty Search Engine God

thinking

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobs

The Gods of Google and all search engines told me that if I don’t feed their hunger they will unleash the Kraken upon my fair City of Angels and sadly I have acquiesced to their threat of terror.

Those few of you who know me well are probably shocked by this because you know that ten times out of eleven I would go fight the Kraken in single combat. Not only would I fight that big old monster, I would win and I would do it without resorting to the cheap trick that other guy used in his battle.

No need to use Medusa, not today, especially since it won’t work anymore.

That is because the new algorithm Google Medusa is about to be released and it is going to be much worse than Panda and Penguin.

That Last Line is Fake

Read the subhead again and take a deep breath- I made up Google Medusa. Unless they start taking orders from me or I have unconsciously locked in on some other secret there is nothing to fear here.

That’s because this post isn’t about how to use my SEO tricks to become an SEO god who can generate 1 million page views from viral videos and SEO tricks that will make you millions.

My tricks are limited to trying to produce good content, build relationships with others and to sustain your effort. This is a marathon and not a sprint.

BTW, some of the SEO advice you see being pushed around the blogopshere is worth as much as it costs to read it- did I mention those posts are free.

This Is Not A Dead Week

Some people will tell you the week between Christmas and New Years is a dead week- they are mistaken. Traffic drops but it doesn’t disappear.

Why is this significant?

It is useful and significant because if you aren’t among the bloggers who go on vacation you have less competition and and opportunity to grow your readership.

I can’t promise that you will do so but I can say you have a good chance but it is still predicated upon providing  good content. What that good content is will vary from person to person.

I heard it’s going to be chilly at the Rose Bowl; what’s up with that?

Like you, my focus was on relationships and content and let the chips fall where they may. However, the one post of mine that consistently has the highest numbers was ‘My butt smells like Fingers’…………..hmmmm, I wonder what people are looking for when they search this? Do you think sex sells? Oh wait, that’s called porn, huh?

Great Steve Jobs quote! How many of us have the faith and courage to pursue such a path. Only the crazy ones. Here’s to being nuts!

I think it’s much easier for people to take the easy path and do what is expected, because failures painful.

I love the Jobs quote because you never know what you’re capable of unless you try.

My goal is to show my children what this means to me and to so them there might be a different way to do things if they’re just willing to try.

Ha! You are not supposed to make me choke and spit out my coffee at 6am and yet you consistently do.

I finally launched an email subscribers newsletter with a special offer I’ve been saying I’d send for a while now. They had a choice of free (just send them the prompts that they need to fill out themselves) or paid (includes a reading at a low price). It’s a new year’s offer called “The Get Real Guide To Life and Love.” It requires them to dig deep and do a lot of their own work. I also made some commentary on fb about how to “close out” the old year before stepping into the new. A lot of people said,”This is an interesting time of year to launch new things,” (meaning, no one’s paying attention) but no, YOU are correct. Both things were THE most responded to of everything I did all year.

I really think it’s a great time to launch new products and opportunities. I wouldn’t call it perfect for everything, but it’s not a bad time because people have time.

It’s a contradiction of sorts, because people really are running, but we also find blocks of time where we can explore.

Funny! There’s nothing else to read, so people come to read my stuff? I agree. Don’t know if that’s why they are reading, but I’m glad I write when I want and that some people don’t sleep. HA!
THIS is why I would either succeed or fail miserably in business. I don’t know how to follow trends. Just had a thought: it’s why children (very small ones) aren’t self-conscious; they don’t know about the power of mirrors, yet.
I was mesmerized by 20,000 Leagues Under te Sea, and Sinbad. Tose creatures scared me to deat just with their writhing!

    • Jack January 1, 2013 at 12:50 am

I’m curious if it’s a matter of you not wanting to follow trends or not knowing how to follow them.

      • Betsy Cross January 1, 2013 at 1:50 am

I see trrends, like everyone else. But unless and until I want to learn how they are important to me and mine I’ll be stubborn and not learn about how to follow them. I have to be ready to use something for understanding to stick

        Happy New Year!
