The Problem With Blogging

Building a better mousetrap isn’t easy.

The problem with blogging is that any post about blogging automatically receives more traffic than normal posts. The problem with blogging is that it lends itself to people listening without hearing.

The problem with blogging is that it creates a hamster wheel effect that makes people push for quantity over quality. The problem with blogging is that many bloggers can’t come up with their own ideas so they parrot the same old things and create an echo chamber that kills creativity.

The problem with blogging is that some people try so hard to be different they…aren’t. The problem with blogging is that if you don’t spend time commenting on other blogs your traffic tends to wither and die.

The problem with blogging is that the blogosphere is cluttered and chaotic.

The problem with blogging is that we aren’t focused on telling good stories, interesting stories or insightful ones. We are just pumping out content.

The problems with blogging really aren’t problems, they are just challenges in need of a simple solution. The answers are there for those who are willing to look for them.

Pumping out content is what I can’t do. Too much work… 😉

Now, telling a story…that’s a definite! And you do a great job at that, Jackson!

The problem with blogging is I can’t seem to quit talking about myself. For better or worse, I write in how it relates to me. However, I also like to think at least some people are thinking the same way I am and can relate to how I feel or what drove me to write about it. The good news is, I’m pretty sure I’m the only one writing about me so that cuts down on the echo chamber quite a bit.

It wasn’t noticeable at first, but now that my commenting has been sporadic at best, the numbers to my site are about half of what they were running. BUT, for what I’m doing right now with my blogging and keeping it personal, it really doesn’t matter, does it?

Oh well, I’ll figure out what kind of blogger I want to be one of these days I suppose.

Many “experts” say we shouldn’t blog about ourselves but I don’t think that it is necessarily true. sometimes it is the easiest way to share stories that people can relate to.

But there is definitely a correlation between traffic and the number of comments left elsewhere. When we don’t visit other blogs it tends to have an impact upon ours. It really shouldn’t be that way, but…
