During my lunch hour a fire alarm went off. One of the most notable things about this was how many people shrugged their shoulders and kept working.
I was in the restaurant in the building and waited an extra two minutes to leave, just long enough to pay the bill. It made me uncomfortable to drag my feet, but I have enough imagination to believe that it could be real so I left.
But there were many who did not leave. After receiving confirmation that it was a false alarm I rode the elevator back up and listened to the conversation around me. Many of the other passengers in the car had the same thoughts about this as me.
Why would you ignore the alarm?
I wonder how many lives have been lost because people ignored the alarm.
