The 25 Best Movie Sound Tracks

Death Watermelon

Time Magazine has a list of what one columnist consider to be the 25 Best Movie Soundtracks. A link to the full list can be found here. Some thoughts about the list:

I can’t stand the Sound of Music. The hills would be better if they were quiet.

Grease– Part of my childhood so I have to give it a thumbs up. Hand Jive baby.
Mary Poppins– Same story.
Saturday Night Fever– I remember when this came out.
Easy Rider– Watched this before a couple of cross country road trips.
Sixteen Candles– John Hughes will be missed.
Singles– I had my own apartment and was enjoying the bachelor life when this came out.

So maybe this really isn’t focused on what should or should not be on the list- but it is my blog and I will write if I want to. 😉

They could have basically put all John Hughes’ movies on that list. I’m a big fan of the She’s Having a Baby soundtrack, because that scene where Kate Bush’s “The Woman’s Work” plays while Elizabeth McGovern has the baby and that drop of blood hits the hospital room floor has always gotten to me.

A worthy list to be sure. I’m a big big fan of “Some Kind of Wonderful”

I’m totally with you on “The Sound of Music.” Lame.
However, just as Picasso had his blue phase, I had my “Grease” phase and know every word to every song. I kind of still love it.
“Footloose” and “Dirty Dancing” are classics, if only because I can dance around my living room with my vacuum cleaner pretending to be both footloose and dirty dancing.
I would have to add “Once” to the list. The movie totally depresses me in the best way possible and I love every song on the damn thing.
    Now you’ve got me thinking…

Footloose- that takes me back. A young Kevin Bacon plays Ren, the young ‘nemesis” of a ‘young’ John Lithgow. That image of you dancing with the vacuum works. Very descriptive, I like it.
