George Bush is not Hitler

I have been mulling this post over for some time now because I know that I am going to get hit with a ton of “fan mail.” And in truth I don’t care whether people agree with me, but since I am not a huge supporter of Bush it irks me to have to defend him.

But I cannot allow the ridiculous comparisons to take place. I’ll try and make this relatively short.

Bush is not Hitler and the comparisons between him and Hitler demonstrate a moral ambiguity and a lack of clarity about Hitler and what he did.

Hitler ran rampant throughout Europe with the intent of remaking it to fit his worldview. He rounded up millions of people, Jews, Catholics, Gays, and others into concentration camps where they were systematically murdered.

Bush has not done anything close to that. There is no comparison.

For better or for worse the world changed on September 11, 2001. When AQ attacked the US they set the groundwork for the invasion of Afghanistan. Can anyone truly say that the US was unwarranted in going after AQ in Afghanistan.

And consider this for a moment. On September 12, 2001 the US could have turned Iraq and large portions of the world into a parking lot and no one would have said boo. And if there were those who disagreed they would have been in the minority.

There is no question that things could have been handled differently and the diplomacy has faltered. But then again it has been well documented that the UN Oil for Food program was corrupt and that Saddam used it to thwart the sanctions.

Just as it has been documented that Russia, Germany, France and China did next to nothing to prevent the war because they were owed billions of dollars by Saddam.

There are dirty hands all over the place. And the US is accountable for many things including many of the current problems in Iraq. I don’t deny our responsibilities there, but it is wrong to accuse Bush of being Hitler incarnate.

I understand and agree that they are not the same.
I also add that there is a ” moral ambiguity and a lack of clarity about ” Bush and his administration.
