IKEA Races to Cash in on China’s Market

“BEIJING – The restaurant at IKEA’s newest store seats 700. Its lobby is a cavernous three stories high. To show off the Swedish home furnishing maker’s goods, there are showrooms the size of five football fields with 77 model living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms.”

I have this funny image in my mind of some Chinese guy trying to understand the garbled Swedish directions that accompany the furniture you buy there.

Better yet, I’d love to see the look on his face when he finds the sticker that says made in Taiwan. 😉

Honestly, I have never been a fan of Ikea. The stuff is soooo not my style and it just looks cheap to me.

No Joke. Fedex works this way and it does boggle the mind. Someone once had to ship something from Manhattan to Long Island for me and sent it Fedex overnight. Without traffic, it’s a 25 minute drive. Upon tracking the package however, we found that the package had gone from NYC to Newark to the Fedex hub in Memphis to JFK and then on a truck to my home… nice 🙂

lets also remember how the items made in Taiwan are shipped.

    Visualize this:

    1. Ship from Taiwan to Sweden (or some other far off place).

    2. From Sweden to China.

The items have to go half way around the world, probably, and then back again. Talk about politics getting in the way! 🙂
