Contrary to popular belief I am not a conservative nor a bleeding heart. At one time I could have been called both, would that be considered a big waffle. I am a registered Democrat but consider myself an independent. I vote issues, not the candidate.
There are many things that Bush has done that I support and many that make me roll my eyes. I am not pleased with the rabid Anybody But Bush crowd. I think that it is dangerous to vote based on the principle that anyone else has to be better than the current officeholder.
I’d like to say that I am exaggerating, but I have run into too many people who espouse this POV not to wonder just how many accept it.
I don’t think that Bush’s core support is going to waver, the likelihood of them deciding to vote for Kerry is similar to the Lakers asking me to play power forward. And I’d say the same about Kerry’s core.
The question is what will the swing voters do. And that I think is a big question because John Kerry is not a man who inspires action, at least not through the world of television/radio. That being said I think that some of the swing will vote for Bush just because they know him and Kerry is an unknown.
People want to be inspired by their leaders. They want to feel like someone can make the tough decisions and Kerry doesn’t do a good job of presenting that. Unless things change in a hurry he is going to be in trouble.
