I am certainly not a fan of France, but this law is just asinine.

I understand where you are coming from, but I don’t see this law as coming from any sort of benevolent desire to integrate the Muslim community into the whole.
It is just part of the French desire to cover up the terrible problems that they are having with this community.
There are other ways to influence change, but they ignore them.

Actually, it isn’t. They’re not just legislating the head scaves you know. They’re in real touble over there. If you accept this one bit of Islam-dictated behaviour, you will have to accept that women will do as their men tell them; that they will not vote; that they will be killed by their father/brothers/uncles when raped to restore the family honour; that women will take pas photos covered from head to toe to preserve their modesty. There are ghettos in France where the police do not dare enter. It is a huge problem and it stems also from france not having had the courage to legislate earlier on. I’m an Anthropologist and I suppose in most things you’d call me a liberal but here the line does need to be drawn, you know. As much as one can welcome multiculturalism and the preservation of one’s cultural heritage in a foreign land, even for 2nd and 3rd generations, if you choose to make a lay country your own – and the Church and State are separate in France – you must abide by said State’s laws. It is unacceptable that there are people in France who do not speak the language. It is unacceptable that they feel they are allowed to cut themselves off from the rest of society to preserve their purity. That being so, they should go back to their own countries. No one forced them to emigrate but having done it, it is their duty to be part of the whole, to contribute since they are being given as well. I’ve been meaning to write a post abt this for the longest time – and I have an Arab to back me up. maybe this will be the kick I need.
