“The 10-person jury found Spc. Charles Graner Jr. guilty of nine of 10 specifications, or counts, for his role in abusing detainees at Baghdad’s Abu Ghraib prison.
The case was to go immediately into the sentencing phase. If convicted of all counts, he could have received 17 1/2 years in a military prison.”
I respect Mr. Graner for having served his country and appreciate his efforts. But based upon all that I know about these activities and his role I cannot see how he did anything but cause shame and dishonor.
This abuse was uncalled for an unwarranted and the example needs to be set so that these types of activities are understood to be serious violations. There may be a lot of shades of gray, but that is how life is.
Don’t cross the line unless you are prepared for the consequences.
