Haveil Havalim #43
I am pleased to host this weeks edition of Haveil Havalim, the round up of the Jewish/Israeli blogosphere. From my perspective as the host I have tried to provide a selection of posts that relate to current events, be they holidays, anniversaries, current events etc.
If I have done my job you’ll find a series of interesting posts from a variety of perspectives, positions and political persuasions. And albeit reluctantly, there will be no bashing of cleveland, detroit or other little towns and villages in the Midwest or the East. 😉
Haveil Havalim (The Jewish/Israeli blog carnival) can also be found at The Truth Laid Bear’s ÃœberCarnival
The games begin with a trip to the Middle East where you can learn about Yosef’s Inner Israeli. Some people go to ulpan to learn Hebrew others rely upon dogs that bark in Hebrew and Non Hebrew speaking tourists. Interested in more ask How AbbaGav Learned Hebrew.
Aussie Dave has a nice piece about a Pro-Israel rally in Rome. You can see it here.
It is ten years since Rabin was assasinated. Miriam has her assessment here, Biur Chametz has his own view too. My Obiter Dicta has a nice post on called Ten Years Later. For another perspective see RabinFest 2005 – Where where YOU when Rabin was shot?
Could this happen again? Ask Orthomom.
While we travel through the Holy Land Treppenwitz asks us to Click some cake and coffee to a soldier and IRIS Exposes 2 Anti-Israel New York Times Falsehoods. Soccer Dad discusses Red Plates. Red is the color of my son’s lips after he has eaten too much Halloween candy which leads to our series of views on Jews and Halloween.
Ze’ev has his perspective on American Jewry and Halloween whichis different from my own thoughts not to mention my list of things that scare me. There are still more thoughts on this including Halloween Customs – Frum Style, The RenReb is not real fond of Halloween, oh well.
Does your head hurt? If not try going to see The Shmata Queen for some puzzles. If this all sounds like a lot of babbling you can always try Mirty and her post on the Tower of Babel. DovBear has his own thoughts on controversy over what to do at a Bris, take a gander here.
I don’t know about you but I am always interested in hearing about more High-Holiday-Season Highlights. A Simple Jew wants to know about your learning. Did you ever wonder Why There’s No Wine Named For Noach. Or perhaps you want to join Jewish Atheist in a philosophical discussion called Is God Moral? Other dilemmas include what is the appropriate attire in which to daven and The Mythology of Breishis.
I am sure that some of you are worried about falling off of the derech. Try reading this blog about the experiences of others in spiritual crisis. Mississippi Fred has an interesting post about the challenges of looking behind the curtain.
On a different tack altogether Shoshana explains Why I Won’t Join Saw You At Sinai and Elisson writes a tale about Coming of Age. Elie’s post Anguished Composure is aptly named. Read it. Modern Orthodox Woman has a brief on a visit from Rav Slifkin that you can see here.
If you are interested in a cup of coffee go sit down with the boys at Kerckhoff and ask them about their thoughts on France , go to Boker Tov Boulder, Elder of Zion or visit Seraphic Secret and you’ll see that there are many who think that the French and Europe are in trouble.
Are you interested in more thoughts about the world reaction to Iran. Try this.
Here is the roundup of posts that I found interesting but didn’t categorize here. Pyschotoddler has a concert coming up. If you are going to be in Milwaukee click here. Ezzie is doing his own roundup. Maybe he should host this again. 😉 Presence has a nice post about speaking with his son this past Shabbos about things his teachers are telling him. Chaim writes about Chabad and some of the recent stories about it.
Cosmic X writes about the engagement of David Hatuel, which is one heck of a story. McAryeh was once a vegetarian. And because I am at a loss for an easy way to end this I’ll encourage you to take a look at my post about my encounter with The GermoPhobe.
That is it for now. If you are interested in participating you can contact View from a Height about being a part of #44. Email him at jsharf at jsharf dot com. If you are interested in hosting it email dhgerstman at hotmail dot com and he’ll set you up.
Thanks for reading and don’t be shy. Go ahead and put a pin in the old Frappr map.
