I have been struggling to come up with this post. I can tell you that the picture above this line if of a bassinet. It is made by Carters and it uses John Lennon Bedding. That is a simple description but it doesn’t really serve my purpose.
It doesn’t tell you that it served as the first bed my children used or that six other children also greeted the world in it. It doesn’t begin to do justice. It isn’t capable of telling you what it meant to use it or how hard it was to break it down into pieces, wrap it in plastic and then store it in the garage.
Maybe I am too sentimental, but I love that bassinet.

We have a yellow leather valise that my grandmother took to the hospital when my mother and aunt were born. It was passed down and used when my sisters and I, and my cousin, were born. Later, it went to the hospital to accompany home each of five grandchildren. We also have a yellow knitted layette set, with shawl, sweater and cap, that my grandmother made for my sister. Each of us and all of our kids, wore it home, even my son, who was born in May and certainly didn’t need to be swaddled in a wool blanket. Luckily, we live two blocks from the hospital, so he didn’t have to be bundled up for too long. I completely understand your attachment to your bassinet.
