The Comments That Didn’t Come
We are almost a month into the life of the new blog and I keep noticing little things. It appears that all of my posts were imported from Blogger but there are issues with some of them. Strange characters and formatting problems keep materializing. I do what I can to clean those us as fast as I can. It is a bit irritating, but some of that is to be expected.
But the comments irritate me more. So many of them didn’t make the trip over from there to here. For what reasons I do not know, they didn’t make the journey alongside of the posts they were married to. In some cases it doesn’t matter and in others it bothers me. Bothers me because the comments were really the highlight of the post. Bothers me because the comments were what made that post special. Bothers me because even though I blog first for myself I still like seeing people respond to the words that I post on a page here.
Gradually the empty places here will be filled and the orphans, those posts with no comments will gain family and friends. The trick is to be patient and that is something that isn’t always so easy for me.

Count your blessing. I imported posts from Posterous to WordPress and NO comments were imported…so there 🙂

I have a Posterous blog that I mess around with. I had been mulling over moving that too, but heard something similar about losing comments. It is irritating- not the worst thing in the world, but…

Okay, I will say this. I followed you over from your old site to your new and there is one thing that bugs me a little – your new site only references post numbers rather than the title of the post. Honestly, my time is short and there are times when I can’t read the links – or maybe I already read them and would be rereading…anyway, post titles in links are key for me.
Sorry to hear about your comments. When I switched from native blogger to disqus, I lost all my blogger comments, but I’m okay with that because it was early on – but I do understand your perspective.

I am working on changing that. There is a technical issue that I need to deal with to the change the link structure.

I changed my blog to a new platform just 2 days ago and had NONE of my previous comments move over. I can appreciate your position on the comments, but I’ve began to realize that most comments are fellow bloggers paying their respects. That those who I am aiming my post towards, in most cases, will never comment and for me that is ok.

I have mixed emotions about it. One of my goals is to turn this into a real money making venture in which case the comments take on greater importance.
But the reality is that I am not going to stop writing so comments are a bonus, but not required.
