JIB Awards 2005
It is official, Aussie Dave of Israelly cool is hosting the JIB awards again. Here is a little description from his site.
“For the second year running, I am proud to present to you the JIB Awards. The word JIB, besides being an acronym for Jewish and Israeli blog, also represents the small triangular sail of a sailboat, as compared to the main sails. The jib’s role is to direct the wind into the main sail, just like a role of Jewish, Israeli, and pro-Israel bloggers is to direct world opinion in favor of Israel. And to really stretch the metaphor, the object of these awards is to direct new readers towards Jewish, Israeli, and pro-Israel blogs. While weblog awards of this kind mean little in the grand scheme of things, they are a fun way to increase blog readership, and, in the case of the JIB Awards, promote Jewish, Israeli, and pro-Israel blogs.Last year’s awards attracted hundreds of blog nominations, generating much buzz and excitement in the Jewish Blogosphere, and even attracting attention from the blog community at large. This year, the competition promises to be even more exciting, as the Jewish and Israeli blog world has at least doubled in size since last year, and is continuing to grow.In addition, I am proud to inform you that I have been able to secure the involvement of the Jerusalem Post this year. The Post has agreed to host all of the voting, and promote the awards on their website, a move that should guarantee even more publicity and attention directed towards the Jewish and pro-Israel blogosphere.”
I didn’t win a thing, but I was nominated and was pleased to be a part of the group. Please note that if you look to nominate any blogs you need to nominate the Shmata Queen as she needs more recognition. Those midwesterners have a lot of challenges and someone from the burning river faces even more.

Now now children, let’s play nice or I’ll have to find one of Trep’s cool images to zing you with. 😉
I really like that straw man and am just dying to use it.
I hear what you are saying. It is a personal thing.

I choose to abstain this year. Last year muddied my name and sullied my reputation. It really hurt my feelings. So I am staying out of it. Dave does an awesome job…but it’s not my bag.

Most of these awards are glorified popularity comments.
I reserve my right to respond to comments like yours
I did not mean to hurt your feelings. However, Jack called me out by name in his post and I reserve my right to respond honestly.

Most of these awards are glorified popularity comments. But I don’t see it this way with the JIBs, since there is a higher purpose.
Given that I put much work into them, – including securing the services of the JPost, which was no mean feat – I get rather put off by comments like yours, which simply put down my hard work. While I am sure that wasn’t your intention, I reserve my right to respond to comments like yours.

…how about getting off your butts and doing something to promote Jewish, Israeli and pro-Israel blogs? Or is it more important to just blog about what you had for breakfast?”
I don’t know who you think you are but you have no right telling anyone what they need to do or what they should be blogging about.
And just because I happen to think these awards are glorified popularity contests doesn’t mean that I don’t support Israel. You have no idea how I spend my time or money.
I stand by comments.

Jack, thanks for the kind words on the awards. 🙂
It sure beats having to hear the usual whingers complain how stupid they are. To them I say: how about getting off your butts and doing something to promote Jewish, Israeli and pro-Israel blogs? Or is it more important to just blog about what you had for breakfast?

Oh great, already this time of year again? Last year everyone’s blogs and writing changed during this time of year because they all wanted to win these stupid awards. I want no part of it.
