Authentic Judaism

September 8, 2009 by Jack Steiner Leave a Comment

Typically I don’t link to Hirhurim very often. Gil has been blogging for quite some time now, at least as long as I have and as a result we have had occasion to pass each other here and there.

While we have relatively divergent views about many things I usually find that though we disagree it is done in a tasteful manner. And that makes all the difference to me.

I don’t care if everyone agrees with my point of view. Makes no difference to me whether friends, relatives, neighbors or landsmen think that they have a better way, provided that their way does not hurt people.

Once you cross that line I haven’t any problem in doing what I can to protect others and to thwart the desires of the morons, numbskulls and mental midgets who believe that their blog should be used as a cudgel to inflict a monolithic perspective upon others.

And that is why I have linked to Gil’s post about authentic Judaism. I can guarantee that he and I disagree about it. It is certain that our views are not in line on many of the issues. I am not positive that we would even agree on what authentic Judaism is except in the broadest definition of the term.

But sometimes we set aside the needs of the one for the needs of the many and so this is why you find a post here about authentic Judaism. Perhaps later on I will flesh this out and prepare something that illustrates my view on matter.

Send a Blogger To Israel For The JBlogger Conference

August 27, 2009 by Jack Steiner Leave a Comment

The denizens of the Jblogosphere have the chance to send a blogger to Israel. Yes, friends and neighbors you can help one of your fellow bloggers win a free trip to Israel to attend the Second International Jewish Bloggers Convention.

I am short on time so I am going to quote the Elder here:

Nefesh B’Nefesh is asking Jewish/Israeli bloggers to nominate other bloggers to fly to Israel on a NbN flight, with the proviso that they must write about their experience.

The catch is that we can only nominate other bloggers and must write a blog post as to why we chose that person.

And I am actually going to bend the rules and nominate two people. The first is the inimitable Soccer Dad, my predecessor as the admin of Haveil Havalim.

Every so often you will see posts such as The Golden Age Of The JBlogosphere in which silly old timers talk about how much better things were in the past. Soccer Dad is responsible for many of the positive developments of the present.

He has been a consistent and stable presence within the Jblogosphere and has always been good about trying to help others. His is a labor of love. It is not easy dealing with all of us crazy MOTs and all of the mishegahs surrounding us, but he does it daily.

My second nominee is another elder statesman of the Jblogosphere. The Elder has been around for what seems like forever now. He produces high quality posts that have served as an excellent resource for Israel advocacy.

And again he does so with great regularity. It takes a lot of time and effort to do what these men do and they deserve our thanks and recognition for it.

Second Annual JBlogger Conference

August 5, 2009 by Jack Steiner Leave a Comment

Friends if you haven’t heard the Second International Jewish Bloggers Convention is coming soon. Once again it is going to held in Jerusalem. If you haven’t been you don’t know what you are missing out on.

Our favorite wafflemaster Jameel will be there again as will our pal Benji. With any luck you’ll get a chance to enjoy some waffles with Jameel and Chumus with Benji.

Last year we laughed as David took on Bibi. Who knows what can happen this year. The possibilities are endless.

Jack’s Pesach Round-Up- Lakers Edition

April 24, 2008 by Jack Steiner Leave a Comment

Hello and welcome to my Pesach round up of posts that caught my eye. This is the Laker’s edition. In a few short weeks we’ll all be able to celebrate as another Laker championship banner is raised. It is too bad that Abbagav has retired because I know that he is another true believer, but I digress.

Some of you may not be aware that Haveil Havalim, The Best of The Jewish/Israeli Blogosphere is not going to come out this Sunday.

However it is going to return on April 28 at Tzipiyah.com. You can participate by submitting your blog post to the next edition of haveil havalim using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

Updated: Thanks to the magic of computers I somehow lost a ton of the posts that were here. I had thought about recreating it, but I am just not up for it. My apologies. In the interim here is a partial for your consumption.

Soccer Dad discussed Hillary’s transformation. Jameel’s waffles are so good even Obama is eating them.

In my best Maxwell Smart voice I say, would you believe that Carter calls Rice a liar.

At What War Zone you can read Even the Animals Speak Hebrew. The Rebbetzin’s Husband is excited to see an appearance by the RenReb. Once upon a time she even left some comments here.

Batya wrote about the challenge of living far from parents. At Jewlicious they wondered What if 007 were an MOT?

This next title caught my eye: Evil monkey’s guide to kosher imaginary animals. Over at Biur Chametz you Make matzah, not chametz.

New York’s Funniest Rabbi is Forever Reliving. Daled Amos shared Kassams And The Beltway Sniper.
